A Positive Change for Corona Commuters
November 18, 2009 by Heidi Franklin
On November 3rd a ceremony kick-ed off a $47.9 million freeway improvement project that will add an additional lane to the congested section of the eastbound 91 freeway.
According to Caltrans, the new lane scheduled to open by this time next year will save you 15 minutes.
The additional lane is a six mile stretch from the 241 Toll Road in Anaheim Hills to the 71 Freeway in Corona and has become one of the region’s most notorious traffic choke points, with more than 300,000 cars and trucks traveling it weekly.
There is also plans to extend the toll lanes in each direction from where they end, just east of the 241, to Pierce Street in Riverside, and add one freeway lane in each direction between the 15 and 71 Freeways
This is exciting news for people giving the opportunity to get home sooner and spend more time with their families.

During these trying times having a resource where you can see all the sale prices of all the local stores can be extremely helpful.
The stores she keeps track of are Stater Bros, Von’s, Ralph’s, Food4less, Fresh & Easy and Henry’s. She usually updates them on Wednesday when the ads come out. She also takes the time to mark in red which items are the best deal vs the other stores.

Is the housing market improving?
August 27, 2009 by Heidi Franklin

Over the past couple of days data on housing has been showing the market gaining some stability. The S&P/Case-Shiller index of home prices in 20 cities saw a 1.4% gain between May and June. But this index has shown signs of turning a corner in the past. That momentum didn’t stick, though, do to the economic downturn.
The first-time homebuyer tax credit was a huge boost to the market — nearly a third of buyers have used this credit. Will the feds extend that tax credit when it ends in November, will the current housing-recovery momentum continue?
The other numbers showing optimism about housing is the Commerce Department’s measure of new-home sales. In July, for the fourth month in a row, the number of new homes sold, rose. July’s jump, of 9.6%, is quite an improvement.
Even if house prices and sales are improving, that doesn’t mean a clean bill of health for housing. The number of people 90 or more days behind on their mortgages continues to rise. A new study from the credit-rating agency Fitch found that among people falling behind on payments, fewer are able to catch up.
So it’s a mixed bag, until employment improves it will be hard for folks to qualify for homes and to make the payments.

Riverside Goes Wireless
August 2, 2008 by Heidi Franklin

Riverside and AT&T are partnering to provide wireless access to the Internet. The service is currently available at the Auto Mall Area, the Downtown Area and Orange Terrace. The initiative is rolling out in phases as the necessary network equipment gets installed around Riverside.
There are several service plans available– a FREE service, called attmetrofree, with advertising intended for general usage, a PAID service targeted at business and other users who want higher performance (faster data speed) and less advertising, called AT&T Metro WiFi.
To connect to the FREE wireless network, users will select the “attmetrofree” network ID when searching available wireless networks on their computer. “attmetrofree” is the free, ad-based service. Once connected, users will open their browser and see a registration page where they are asked to register. Users will only need to register once, the first time they log on. On subsequent visits, users will be instantly connected to the Internet.
SmartRiverside will be presenting training sessions for connecting to the new Riverside WiFi network.
- Wednesday – August 13 at La Sierra Park
- Wednesday – August 27 at Nichols Park
